Catwoman progress!

So last week I thought I failed Agisoft photoscan and the software failed me. Turns out, that's not 100% true! I did end up with an obj that could be used!

So this week we had to pull in our files into Zbrush and fill in some holes and try and smoothen our 3D model so we can have some fun with it in Unreal or Unity.

Nothing is an immediate success. I ran into some UV map issues and my texture seemed like a folded piece instead of a human skin unwrapped. I also must've moved my model after pulling it into Zbrush cause when I uploaded it back to photoscan it moved positions.

Step 1 : FAIL

Align photos led to a very interesting circular arrangement and then I totally forgot to resize the box for the T-pose which made her armless.

Step 2: FAIL

For some reason the align photos always led to the model turning upside down and the mid circle was not aligned to the model box.

Step 3: FAIL

I decided to move on from the non-alignment and still process the texture, etc.

Now I have an OBJ file and need to figure what's up with it!

Insta-who?

The digital space I want to choose for this assignment is the big photo album of social media - Instagram. I recently archived all my posts and have nothing on my page. This is what it currently looks like -

Instagram page as of October 2nd 1:13 am EST

Instagram page as of October 2nd 1:13 am EST

I have 776 followers and zero posts but it says 1 for some odd reason and I follow 233 humans. I would like to safely say that I have extinguished my social circle. Everyone who knows me well enough probably follows me on this platform.

My experiment here on is to simulate different personas within the Instagram world - fashion bloggers, travel bloggers, food bloggers, beauty bloggers, photographers, stand up comedians, etc and inhabit them for 30 posts each. I plan to use to Instagram API to trigger the next post on every 5 followers. The posts will be comprising of all the 'to-do' things that magazines/bloggers mention to get Instagram famous which include incessant hashtags, current/relevant topics, etc. I am taking tips from wikihow, inc.com, cosmopolitan, elle.com, gurl.com and also from Henry Carroll's 'Read this if you want to be Instagram famous' and DerekThompson's 'Hitmakers'.

The description and look of the profile changes every time the profile switches to a new persona.

Step 1: I finalized the personas I'd like to cover and the ones that get the most attention on Instagram which are as follows

  • Food blogger
  • A Celebrity's fan (Selena Gomez seems to be the most followed one)
  • Traveller
  • Fashion
  • Stand up comedian
  • Beauty blogger
  • Sports fanatic
  • Role player (not sure about this one)
  • Gamer
  • Book lover
  • Photographer
  • Musician

Step 2: Collect/Click the database of 30 images with tags under each persona.

I am a bit confused about whether I should click or use stock images. I would prefer to click but I like to idea of using stock since it is a total disconnect from my personality or me.

Step 3: Write the code and run the app

Constraints I am adding - I will follow whoever follows me and for every 10 followers added I will unfollow 2 accounts until I reach 200 following. No automated engagement will be done during this experiment.

Final Aim - I am assuming reaching 1000 followers is not hard at this point since I am on 700+ so by the end of this experiment reaching 5k followers to see how artificial or "organic" social media growth truly is!

Analog avatar

For this weeks assignment I decided to let people around me control some of my actions. I asked people to give anonymous suggestions.

I plan to make an Instagram post about each suggestion and have someone thats not me do it. Mocking their perception that they controlled me for a few actions rather it was them controlling someone else pretending to be me!

This is only partially executed, will do the posts this week!

Avatars

I got excited and did more than two because it was such a fun assignment! It's so interesting that each avatar is so different yet characteristically SO ME!

1. What did I have control over?

With most of these tools, I had control over Face, facial features, hair, clothes and some accessories. This seemed monotonous to me after a point and I started to wonder what we could change about these avatar making apps to make them more exciting.

2. Were there things you wanted to have control over that you didn’t?

I would have liked more options or choices at the least in places that I did not have a lot of creative control over. Reminded me of the time I made my 2D vector in photoshop and like that purely cause I could choose my pose and angle and other parameters that are not of concern to these apps.

3. Are these avatars an accurate representation of you? What is missing? - How do the two avatars compare to one another?

They are drastically different in several ways but certain characteristics do portray my features and one can make out who it is.

I love the South Park one the best and I want to make the Simpsons one but it isn't available!
